Talbot Road
Brief
5 new dwellings on a site in the south-east for a developer-client. The plot sat between two parallel streets. The demand in the local area was for bungalows. There were a number of similar sites being developed locally so the intention was for these units to ‘stand out from the crowd’.

To maintain the relationship to the street context, the units were designed along the existing street lines with back to back gardens between the new dwelling and the neighbouring properties. We wanted to jazz up the humble bungalow to make it an appealing option for all demographics. The site allowed for a generous footprint for each unit. The garages have been integrated, increasing the flexibility and use of the space for parking or as a gym. The key architectural feature is the vaulted living and dining area with skylights, creating a volume and space not typical to developer housing.
We created two elevation types, using a hipped and gable fronted roof form to create variation. This is also echoed in the front porches. The glazed gable end at the rear, provides uninterrupted views of the garden, flooding the living area with light and providing a unique selling point. The two-unit types are also clad in two different tones of brick, adding to the uniqueness and individuality of the overall development.
