Riverside Road

Brief

A refurbishment and extension of a 1960’s detached property in Esher, Surrey. The couple, with their young family, were also keen to improve the energy performance and overall curb appeal of their new home. The existing property was quite narrow, impeding the movement and circulation through the key spaces in the house.

  • Working with a clear budget in mind, we explored a sensitive reconfiguration of the existing property in order to achieve the functional needs of the clients. A first-floor extension provides an additional bedroom and ensuite. As part of the reconfiguration of the ground floor, we converted the garage into a habitable space and created a new covered entrance porch. We provided a modest extension at the rear which. Large enough to accommodate the open plan living and dining layout. Furniture studies allowed us to make sure it worked functionally so we didn’t extend any further than what was required.

We improved the building fabric, wrapping it in rigid insulation with brick slip at the lower level and timber cladding above. Brass coloured triple glazed windows and bifolds complement the palette of materials, creating an elegant and sympathetic modernisation.
