Edward Road
Brief
The proposal involves the design of two new-build, three-bedroom detached properties situated at the end of a quiet lane in Essex, intended for a developer client.

The existing properties along the street predominantly consist of terraced houses featuring gabled dormers in their roof spaces. Instead of adding a second level to meet spatial requirements, we opted to vault the first floor, creating a distinctive feature that sets these new homes apart from the standard mass-built housing developments in the area. By lowering the roofline, we achieved a dormer effect that resonates with the character of the surrounding architecture.
Establishing a unique identity is a crucial aspect of all our designs, whether for a one-off house or a developer housing project. We chose a light buff-coloured brick complemented by dark brick accents for each of the buildings. To enhance their visual appeal, we incorporated detailed brickwork on the gable ends, wrapping it around to create a quoining effect on both the front and rear elevations, adding texture and sophistication to the overall design.
