Kingswood
Brief
A proposal for a new ultra-executive home within a gated estate in Surrey. Key client requirements include a home gym, a swimming pool, and a spacious living room designed for entertaining. The plot is generously proportioned, and the client aims to maximise views, particularly from the rear, which overlooks a golf course.

Our client, having lived in the States, developed a fondness for American modernism, which inspired our design concept centred on elevated living. The pool, gym, and wellness spaces are located on the ground level to create a strong physical connection to the garden and outdoor areas. Access to the main entrance is via a recessed, stepped pathway leading to the first floor, where the primary living, kitchen, and entertainment spaces are situated, along with a home office featuring a front-facing balcony. A double-height space links the lounge with the downstairs music room, incorporating expansive curtain walling that enhances the visual connection to the garden. The second floor accommodates four generously sized bedrooms.
We utilised three key materials. Brown long format bricks, profiled metal and timber. The brick cladding is used to anchor the ground floor level to the site. We purposely created a strong wall at the front elevation in order to draw the eye to the form above. The brickwork wraps inside, married with raw concrete staircase to create an industrial, loft-style aesthetic which creates a beautiful contrast with the polished surfaces. The upper two floors float above this form, clad in profiled metal and vertical larch cladding. We collaborated with Interior Designers, Atelier Janaye to develop the internal finishes, furniture and lighting proposals.
